STRENGTHENING THE GLOBAL INFORMATION AND EVIDENCE BASE ON HUMAN RESOURCES FOR HEALTH
Monitoring and assessing trends in human resources for health (HRH) dynamics is a key element of our work. This includes compiling, processing and disseminating statistical information on the global health workforce to support decision making for policies and programmes.

Sources of health workforce statistics
The need for health workforce statistics is a critical issue of concern. The required analysis for policy action must be based on reliable data from relevant sources. However, information on health system personnel is often fragmented or incomplete, particularly in countries where the need for comprehensive data is crucial. Moreover, even in countries where high quality data are available, the information is not always used for decision making. This database is a collection of national data sources on health workforce statistics.

The main (aggregated) data set provides information on 9 occupational categories, while the disaggregated data set has information on 18 occupational categories. Data on the distribution of the health workforce by age, sex and urban/rural are also available for some countries.
