World directory of medical schools
Final updates through December 2007

The WHO Department of Human Resources for Health, in collaboration with its partners, has been compiling information on education and training institutions for health workers around the world. WHO received the following information on medical schools from the governments of its Member States for the updates to the World directory of medical schools (base year 2000). This information covers the period through December 2007, and constitutes the final updates of the World Directory, before its incorporation into the new "Avicenna Directories" global directories of education institutions for health professions.

The new global database "Avicenna", developed in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen, replaces the directory of medical schools and is expanded to other health professions starting with pharmacy and public health schools. All data on the former World Directory and its updates will be included in this new database.

Readers are reminded that WHO has no authority to grant any form of recognition or accreditation to schools of medicine or other training institutions. Such a procedure remains the exclusive prerogative of the national government concerned.
